Our fast-paced lifestyle means that we often reach for takeaway food. But what about our health? Is it. But is good to consume products from different types of trays and boxes? Which packaging will serve and which will harm our health? Read on to find out more.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PACK FOOD?
Loose food products or food intended to be packaged as a takeaway, e.g. a hot dish, generally goes into one of two types of packaging – plastic or paper cardboard. While plastic is generally not a good choice, paper is. Why? Well, plastic contains harmful polymers which in contact with food end up in our bodies. It has been proven that they can disrupt our endocrine system. The carcinogenic styrene present in polystyrene packaging, which is often used to pack hot food, is even worse. Paper, on the other hand, as a natural material made from cellulose, is completely safe for our body. What is more, it provides excellent protection against excessive heat, direct sunlight or moisture, all of which are important factors in the rapid deterioration of food. This is why paper packaging is not only suitable for storing dry food but also food with a high fat content. It is resistant to fat and do not absorb it. Glass packaging is also safe, although not everything can be packed in it.
HEALTH AND ECOLOGY
If you are concerned about your health, it is worth paying attention to whether the food you buy is packaged in paper or plastic. For the sake of their customers’ health, the catering industry should therefore take an interest in cardboard packaging as a better alternative than plastic, demonstrating a concern for customers’ health and adopting a more ecological approach.
